Toy Testing

IsleChem performs chemical testing for lead and phthalates on children's toys and child care articles as per the requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).

Phthalates Testing
Phthalates testing requirements include six phthalates, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), n-butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), di-isononyl phthalate (DINP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP), and di-n-octylphthalate (DNOP). IsleChem conducts testing as per the test method proposed by CPSC:

CPSC-CH-C1001-09
Standard Operating Procedure for Determination of Phthalates*
February 9, 2009
CPSIA Test Method

Toys and child care articles are required to be under 0.1% (of total weight) of the listed phthalates. While the CPSC has delayed enforcement for certain testing and certification requirements, the requirement to meet the phthalate limits is in effect now and applies to all manufacturers, regardless of size.

Lead Testing
Testing for several categories such as  lead in paint, total lead, and small parts is required.

Where testing is required, manufacturers and importers of children's products must test their products using a third-party accredited testing lab. IsleChem is accredited to test for lead in children's products in accordance with 16 CFR Part 1303 requirements.
